Suggi Kunitha

                                              



  Suggi Kunitha  is an art performed by the Halakki Vokkaligas of North Kannada. Halakki tribe is a pure Agricultural tribe inhabitants  of coastal area of UttaraKannada district of Karnataka. with a very rich folklore history.One of the most celebrated event is suggi  dance performed during the Holi Festival. Halakki Vokkaligas can be seen in Kumta,Ankola,
Karwar , Honnavar taluk's of Uttara kannada district and part of land touching the waters of Arabian sea.
       
                                                                   Halakki people's live in group of Houses called Koppas and there will be one team from each koppa .Village head will decide whether they perform suggi that year or not. Suggi with  Full costumes called "Hiri suggi" and Suggi with no costumes Called as" Kiri suggi".
                                                                                 Just like every traditional dance in India Suggi dance also carries a rich Symbolism  which is more associated with nature.They use unique turban which is decorated with the colorful ornaments,small wooden birds or any thermocol, peacock feathers which resembles a tree.And the colors used are green,red,yellow and white which symbolizes nature's colors.  When it comes to culture and tradition, Halakki people never run out of it.
